Ivan Marquez reads the announcement of the unilateral cease-fire of the FARC-EP. November 19, 2012.

The FARC-EP and different social and political sectors from Colombia, since the beginning of the peace talks, have been asking for a bilateral cease-fire, to reduce the suffering and the bloodshed produced by so many years of war, and to create an appropriate climate for the peace talks.

The Colombian government insists on continuing the war, thinking that through military triumphs, they will be able to bow down the insurgency at the Conversation Table. In spite of this negative, the FARC-EP announced a unilateral cease-fire on November 19th:

?The Secretariat of the FARC-EP, embracing the immense clamor for peace from different sectors of Colombia, orders all the guerrilla units in the country to stop all kinds of offensive military operations against the public force and acts of sabotage against public or private infrastructure, during the period between 00:00 hours on November 20, 2012, until 00:00 hours on January 20, 2013.This political decision of the FARC-EP is a solid contribution to strengthening the climate of understanding necessary for the parties to start dialogue and to achieve the purpose all Colombians ask for?.
