The delegations of the National Government and the FARC-EP inform that the first workday of technical visits to the Transitory Normalization Areas and Transitory Normalization Points was successfully completed. The following rural settlements were visited: Los Pondores in Fonseca, Guajira; Gallo, Tierra Alta, Cordoba; La Playa in Tumaco, Nariño; Campo Alegre, Puerto Asis, Putumayo; Buenavista, Mesetas in the departments of Meta and La Unilla in Retorno, Guaviare.
The journey began early in the day and was extended for more than six hours. The working groups were composed by delegates from the National Government, the FARC-EP and international observers from the United Nations Mission to Colombia, accompanied by the guarantor countries and the ICRC.
Field delegates of the governorates and some of the mayors joined. In order to expedite the journey, the groups were divided into two: the first met with community leaders to explain the scope of this visit and the second, composed of officers of the Public Force, Comandantes of the FARC-EP of different areas, engineers, surveyors and experts in logistics and communications reviewed the places where the Areas will be located.
During the reconnaissance of the Area in the rural settlement of Gallo, Tierra Alta, Cordoba, Mayor Fabio Otero expressed his support to the peace efforts "On behalf of Tierra Alta, anything we need to do in order to contribute to peace will be done, since this is a municipality that has had many victims, many widows, many children without parents, what we want is to rebuild social fabric", he said.
Tomorrow a new workday of technical visits will take place. The final decision on the location of the Areas will be taken by the parties to the Peace Talks in Havana, once all the collected technical and logistic data are analyzed.
