Report from Havana, April 8, 2016
Havana, Cuba – The central topic today in Havana revolved around the issue of paramilitarism, and specifically around the petition made by the paramilitary group Los Urabeños for political recognition.
Havana, Cuba - The paramilitary threat in Colombia is increasing, in spite of peace talks being underway with both guerrilla organisations FARC-EP and ELN. Paramilitaries are ultra-right armed groups of terror, often entrenched with military forces, big landowners and/or local politicians.

With deep concern, the Peace Delegation of the FARC-EP rejects the attempt of aggression against the spokeswoman of the Social and Political Movement Marcha Patriótica and warrior for Peace PIEDAD CÓRDOBA RUIZ, on April 1 in the city of Quibdó, crowning a threatening paramilitary offensive across the country (Read: Attack against Piedad Córdoba in Quibdó).

Human Rights defender Piedad Córdoba was victim of an attack Friday by an armed man in the town of Quibdó, capital of the department of Chocó. The former senator is unhurt, thanks to the quick reaction of her bodyguards.

Another social leader has been killed by paramilitaries. Adrián Quintero Moreno, from the Platform Antorcha Ciudadana (member of Conafro and Marcha Patriótica) was murdered Friday 18 March, allegedly by members of the well known group "Los Urabeños".
Two brothers, Cristian and Jorge Castiblanco, (23 and 18) and Alex Carrillo (35) have been found dead in Ricaurte, municipality of Girardot. They had disappeared on 14 March in the municipality of Cabrera.
Luis Rodríguez Castro, an indigenous community leader has been killed in Mapiripán in the department of Meta. The area is rife with paramilitary activity, with presence of the paramilitary groups the “Gaitanistas” and the “Urabeños”.
