La Polizia Nazionale e l’ESMAD hanno aperto il fuoco e caricato i contadini nella Vereda Tandil, corregimieto Llorente, nel municipio di Tumaco. I contadini stavano effettuando un assedio umanitario in difesa delle coltivazioni di foglia di coca, unico sostentamento di queste popolazioni di fronte all’abbandono dello Stato.
The National Police and the special corp ESMAD have opened fire against peasants in the Village Tandil, municipality of Tumaco.
Today, a lawsuit was filed before the Constitutional Court against the newly sanctioned police code; interposed by social organizations and some members of Congress who expressed that this new code is dictatorial and affects the human rights of citizens.
Social organizations, leaders and participants to the peaceful strike running for three days already in Quibdo (Chocó), have reported that on Thursday, August 18, that members of the Mobile Anti-Riot Police (ESMAD) have attacked, provoked and harrassed the population, excessively using force and violating its constitutional duty.

According to Jorge García, president of the National Federation of Truck Drivers, the protest of transport workers and their families was violently repressed by members of the ESMAD [the anti-riot unit of the National Police] who provoked the protesters in the crosspoint of 13th Street with Boyacá Avenue in Bogotá. The policemen launched tear gas and rubber bullets, wounding at least two kids who were joining the manifestation.
At least 70 thousand peasants, indigenous and afro-descendants of Colombia have taken to the roads and highways of 27 departments, concentrated on more than a hundred points, some of which have been violently attacked by security forces.
On the 19th of August started the Agrarian and Popular National Strike in Colombia and now, almost two weeks afterwards, it continues growing every day, bringing together the multiple struggles of people.

The confrontations are taking place at this moment and since four hours in ?La Uno?, at 15 minutes from Tib?.
The protesters fight against the police with bottles and stones, the police is using ? for the moment- teargasses, flashbangs and rubber bullets. A police helicopter is overflying the peasant barricades on the road between Tib? and C?cuta. Until the moment, after seven hours of confrontation, there are seven peasants wounded; they have been moved to the health post of La Aduana, one of them is seriously injured. Two ESMAD policemen have been wounded, too. There is a lot of black smoke seen between ?La Cuatro? and ?La Uno?, where several machines belonging to Ecopetrol were incinerated.
There have been 32 days of peasant protests in Catatumbo, until now with no governmental answer at all, on the contrary; the dialogues between the government and the spokesmen of the peasants were suspended three days ago. The peasants claim a Peasant Reserve Zone of Catatumbo, financing of the Sustainable Development Plan of the PRZ, suspension of the violent eradication of illegal crops, a program of gradual and consulted substitution of these crops, a subsidy for the victims of the forced eradication, the suspension of the military consolidation plan and of the mining and energy initiatives within the Catatumbo?s Peasant Reserve Zone and the improvement of the Human Rights? situation in that region.
